New rules get shoppers the best deals
New rules are to be implemented this weekend that ensure shoppers get the best deals in the sales.
Consumer minister Gerry Sutcliffe says that the new guidelines for retailers will give shoppers the best protection when buying goods, and also incorporates modern shopping habits, as the rules cover shopping venues such as factory outlets.
The new code ensures that prices advertised as discounted are genuinely cut-price items, and have actually been discounted from a genuine retail price.
It also stresses that explanations behind sale items should be clear and understandable.
Mr Sutcliffe said: 'Whether shopping on the high street or online consumers should to be assured that sales discounts are genuine. The new, updated Code of Practice will be instrumental in helping honest traders whilst also protecting consumers.
'We have worked hard to ensure the advice we give to traders is up to date, clear and straightforward so they don't provide misleading prices to consumers.' |
