No rainy days for spendthrift Brits

UK consumers aren't putting enough money away, says a new survey.

Half of all Brits say they don't regularly save money and many claim this is due to the burden of debt repayments.

A quarter of people have revealed they don't save anything at all, the sole reason being because of debt repayments.

Britannia's survey suggests that today's 'have now' culture means that people are prepared to fall into debt if they can have what they want, as soon as they want it.

Just over half of those polled said they would go into the red or borrow from friends and family if it meant they could fulfil their desire for new things.

Men were showed to be better savers than women and 'the future' was the main reason that a 61 majority per cent gave for saving.

Neville Richardson, chief executive at Britannia, commented: 'Many people are obviously finding it hard to save due to the high cost of living and the culture of debt that has been growing in the UK over the past ten years.

'For those who are managing to save, they can make the most of their savings by having different savings accounts for each goal they are saving for.'
