Free cash for all says Nationwide
Nationwide is calling for all cash machines that don't charge to make withdrawals to display a green sign, so consumers can identify that they will not be charged.
Nationwide says that the days of free cash withdrawals are in danger, and wants consumers to be able to easily identify whether using a machine will incur a fee.
Paying machines should display a red sign, claims the Building Society, so consumers are not misled into paying for a service they don't want to spend money on.
Research on the subject concluded that 97 per cent of Brits think the signs are a good idea, and Nationwide subsequently says it will introduce them on all of its machines.
Stuart Bernau, Nationwide's executive director, said: 'The industry has been dragging its heels over providing real clarity for consumers regarding cash machine charges.
'It is time to stop messing consumers around: we call on the industry to raise its standards and follow our lead by introducing at-a-glance signs as standard on all UK cash machines.' |
