2k to run car for a year
The average annual cost of running a car in the UK is more than £2,000 says a new report.
Growing petrol prices, taxes, fines, car insurance and other costs have combined to reach this figure, which stands at £2,053 per car.
The research, commissioned by Sainsbury's Bank, suggests that motorists can follow a few simple steps to help reduce costs.
The first thing to do, according to Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's car insurance manager, is to shop around for the best insurance deal. She claims that this can save Brits hundreds of pounds per year.
She also suggests driving to a cheaper petrol station, as motorway garages can charge up to ten pence extra per litre on fuel.
The cost of car care and services can also vary between providers, as some franchised dealers cost a third more than independent garages.
The average amount that a UK driver spent on fuel in one year was £1,104.90, the most expensive cost of running a car. |
