FSA warns over fake car insurance scam

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) is warning motorists about a bogus insurance company selling fake insurance.

Motorists are being advised to check their motor insurance policies, and consumers who hold policies with H&O Insure have been told to seek new cover immediately.

Unfortunately for some unlucky Brits, the fake H&O Insure has been issuing policies in the Birmingham area, although sales could potentially be more widespread than this.

'H&O Insure Limited claim to be based at 4 Equity House, 42 Central Square, Wembley, HA9 7AL. This address is empty and awaiting demolition and there is no trace of the company on the register maintained by Companies House. The company is not authorised by the FSA to act as an insurer so their policies are invalid,' the organisation said.

'Drivers who have bought motor cover through this company may be committing a criminal offence by driving without valid insurance,' it added.

The FSA has asked anyone who has a contact with H&O to call them on 0845 606 1234.
