Single Britons warned to insure their homes
One in three single Britons does not have any house insurance, warns new research from More Than.
Figures estimate an average 'singleton' living in the UK will have around £19,284 worth of goods in their home, making a total of £38.1 billion in uninsured contents.
More Th>n predicts that by 2021, single person households will make up almost 33 per cent of all households in the UK.
Describing the situation as a waiting "time bomb", the company advises people to take out insurance cover, especially as singletons own more luxury and electrical goods than ever before.
"People are marrying later and with divorce rates on the increase, the problem of single people without adequate insurance could snowball," said David Pitt, head of insurance at More Th>n.
"It is estimated that the average disposable income will rise to £30,000 by 2008, which could drive the value of possessions up even further," he added.
London and the south-east have seen the biggest rise in single households, with this figure expected to increase again by 2020. |
