Celebrity wannabes borrow billions
Women who want to emulate their favourite celebrity rack up a combined £3.5 billion of debt per year, Virgin Money has revealed.
The survey shows that 80 per cent of women feel pressured to achieve a perfect image, and nine in ten women last year spent an average of £500 on clothes, accessories, fake tan and hair extensions.
Putting fashion before finance, three quarters of the women interviewed admitted turning to their credit cards to fund their star-like style.
Scott Mowbray of Virgin Money Credit Cards, said: "Our statistics show women still feel pressured to emulate celebrity style this year and many women still see beauty treatments such as facials and manicures as essential."
Britons currently owe a total of £55.69 billion on their plastic and the latest figures from the Bank of England reveal that this month, the amount of credit card debt rose by £800 million. |
