Huge job losses for C&G branch staff
A spokesman for the Lloyds Banking Group is expected to make an announcement today that will spell misery to 1,500 workers in Cheltenham & Gloucester branches around the country. The casualties are the fall out from the difficult merger between Lloyds and HBOS last year. Lloyds have a number of brands and some of the existing borrowers will have their accounts passed to other brands such as Halifax, Bank of Scotland or Lloyds TSB.
The total loss of jobs due to the merger will reach almost 4,500 and the Unite trade union leader Derek Simpson has voiced his concern at the loss of jobs he said “It will rip the heart out of hundreds of local communities up and down the country as customers will see their valued community bank branch close”. He added his anger to the issue by saying that he was “appalled” that the first staff had heard about it was through the media.
