£1m homes treble
Figures released show that over a period of 12 months from June 2001-June 2002, the amount of £1million homes sold in England and Wales was 2,249. Fast forward to the period June 2006-June 2007, and the number has trebled to 6,170.
The Halifax group estimated that there are around 88,000 homes valued at a £million or more. Five years ago the figure was more like 53,000 with little sign of the top end of the market witnessing any price cooling. More than half of the £million homes were sold in London, six per cent were sold in the North. |
