Credit concerns strain relationships

Couples are finding it increasingly difficult to talk openly about credit card debts, a survey has claimed.

Research from Tickbox.net shows that, of 719 couples aged 16 and over, 40 per cent adopted a policy of lying when forced to own up to how much they spent on luxuries for themselves.

Indeed, many admitted they found talking about finance more difficult than discussing sex or previous lovers.

Relationship psychologist Christine Webber told the Daily Mail that the state of mistrust over money would have serious effects on all aspects of the relationship.

'Not knowing how to bring up the subject of money with a loved one without sounding accusatory, mean, or overly serious, can cause incredible relationship stress,' she said.

Research is increasingly showing confusion among consumers about how to discuss matters of finance, with findings last week revealing that twice as many consulted their horoscopes as went to see their bank manager.

To ease relationship pressures, couples can find the most straightforward answers on credit cards by looking online.
