The £9.6b last-minute shopping splurge
Brits are anticipated to hand over £9.6 billion in the last week before Christmas, says a new report.
According to Sainsbury’s Credit Cards, £1.91 billion more will be spent this week, than in the same week running up to Christmas last year.
Around 1.1 million claimed they would spend at least £1,000 on this last-minute shopping frenzy and a further 2.88 million people intend to spend between £501 and £1,000.
Men are forecast to spend more than women, with fellas splashing out £275.8 on final moment items and women splurging £196.
During this spend, the bank estimates that £1.82 million will be put on credit cards and Donald MacLeod, credit card manager, Sainsbury's Bank, warns consumers it is important to look around for the best deal possible.
'Credit cards provide a convenient way in which to do your Christmas shopping but if you are unsure whether you will be able to clear your balance in January, you may be better off spreading the cost with a card that offers an introductory rate of zero per cent APR on purchases.' |
