£400m gaping gift hole
Around £400 worth of presents will vanish into a present 'black hole' this Christmas, according to a new survey.
Just under half of all UK adults will receive a gift they don't like this Xmas, meaning that 15 million gifts will be consigned to the gift gap.
Around half of unwanted pressies in the 'black hole' will be donated to a charity shop.
One in three will store their gifts and never use them again and one in five recyclers will re-wrap them and give them to someone else.
A naughty two per cent of those polled will simply throw them away.
This Christmas, why not agree with friends and family that you will avoid this waste and make financially savvy gestures instead?
Putting money into a savings account, or paying off a bit of your mortgage or personal loan can provide greater benefit than you can get from an unwanted gift.
Simon Carter, head of marketing at the Post Office, the firm that carried out the research, said: 'This survey shows just how hard it is to choose the perfect Christmas present.'
Avoid the gift dilemma and do something different this Christmas. |
