Are you a saver or a borrower?
Brits can't seem to make up their minds whether they are a nation of borrowers or savers, according to a new survey.
Around one in three people are currently making mortgage repayments that constitute more than a third of their incomes, according to Moneyfacts.co.uk.
Furthermore, two in three have a credit limit on their card that is higher than they expected or asked for.
Counteracting this excessive borrowing, however, is the revelation that three-quarters of consumers save over £100 each month.
Emma Butler, Moneyfacts.co.uk editor comments: '61 per cent of consumers having a higher limit on their credit card than expected or requested shows that we are being encouraged to get ourselves deeper into debt.
'Although it is clearly the responsibility of cardholders not to spend above their means, issuers are not helping by luring people to spend more.'
She added that news of a large number of people saving was more positive, suggesting that Brits could be 'moving more towards becoming a nation of savers'. |
