Secret savings for Christmas surprises

Around two in three Brits choose to keep their savings a secret in order to buy that extra special Christmas present, suggests a new survey.

AA Savings claims that this trend of secret saving continues on throughout the year, with half of the nation saving for a rainy day on the sly.

One in twelve choose never to discuss their financial affairs with their partners.

'This is an encouraging sign,' said Lloyd East, general manager of AA personal finance.

'While growing personal debt is a worry, this survey perhaps shows that people are saving to meet the cost of expensive purchases - even if they are doing it secretly!'

The survey also revealed that Scots are the most romantic when it comes to saving money to treat their loved-ones, with 40 per cent of secret savers doing it for their partners.

Welsh people were found to be the most open, with only one in a hundred claiming to save in silence.
