Brits love a bargain
UK consumers are more likely to brag to friends when they've picked up an absolute bargain, as opposed to when they splash out on designer clothes, finds a new survey.
An incredible 85 per cent of Brits are more pleased when they’ve picked up a good deal than with the purchase of a designer item, reveals Morgan Stanley's research.
Of these savvy shoppers, seven in ten have boasted to friends about the good deal they have found on clothes.
'The fact that we're more proud of our bargain purchases shows that the appetite for clever shopping is on the rise,' said Patrick Muir, marketing director, Morgan Stanley Consumer Banking.
'Quality items are now so accessible, whatever the budget and we are seeing some of the country's top designers producing affordable clothing ranges for the supermarkets and department stores. As a consequence Brits are cottoning on to the financial rewards that can be gained from shopping cleverly on both the high street and in supermarkets.'
However, some groups of people still prefer the snob value of desinger brands. Perhaps as expected, four in five teenagers brag to friends about their designer purchases.
In contrast, less than one over-50 in three takes pride in showing off their designer buys, Morgan Stanley reports, and overall more than half of Britons hide expoensive purchases from friends. |
