Savings accounts for football fans
Premiership football fans who want to do more to support their favourite team can now open an account which is linked to the club of their choice.
Nine of England's top teams have launched savings accounts featuring their branding.
The accounts mean that football fanatics can pledge their financial support in addition to buying tickets for matches, as one per cent of the money in the account is donated to the club of choice annually.
In return, fans who sign up will receive exclusive discounts and savings that are not available elsewhere. Supporters of Liverpool and Chelsea can feel particularly pleased that their cash will go towards youth development, thus ensuring the future success of their clubs.
'Although interest rates on these accounts are not as high as some online savings accounts, most have instant access and pay rates which do compete with other branch-based savings products, especially when the per cent donation to the club is taken into account,' said Rachel Thrussell, head of savings at price comparison website Moneyfacts.co.uk.
These 'football' accounts are mainly provided by the Britannia and West Bromwich building societies, offering interest rates of between 2.3 and 3.55 per cent. |
