Brits not prepared for loss of salary
A new study has revealed that over half of British workers could not survive financially if they were unable to work.
According to the Wealth Tracker Index from Alliance & Leicester (A&L), 56 per cent of workers would have difficulties if they could not work because of illness, accident or unemployment.
In addition, 21 per cent have no insurance and not many savings that they could fall back on.
Sarah Ennion, product manager at Alliance & Leicester said: "When you work it can be easy to take your monthly income for granted. However, if you become ill, suffer an accident or are made redundant then you may be unable to earn an income.
"It is therefore important to consider what measures you can put in place to ensure you can continue to meet your financial commitments and maintain a reasonable standard of living."
Out of the people who couldn't manage, 61 per cent would need £1,000 per month as well as their current savings and 22 per cent would need £1,500 each month.
Partners could not offer much help in difficult times, since only 14 per cent would be able to reply on their partner's income if they lost their salary. |
